Private Adoption Ottawa was established by Martha Maslen and Maryanne King. We share an open and flexible approach and attitude to adoption. Our goal is to provide as positive an adoption experience as possible for those with whom we work always keeping in sight the best plans for the child involved.

Martha and Maryanne have over twenty years of adoption and social service experience. In addition to working in a number of child service settings, Martha was the Executive Director of The Children’s Bridge, an International Adoption Agency, for over ten years. During her tenure The Children’s Bridge was the largest adoption agency in Canada and in the vanguard of adoption services.

Maryanne’s work in the private sector includes home studies for all types of adoption and she has developed an expertise in the area of birth parent counseling. She has worked in the public sector as a supervisor with the Ottawa Children’s Aid Society and is also approved as a Family Group Conferencing Coordinator. Both have obtained their Masters in Social work and both are approved by the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) as Adoption Practitioners.

If you are a birth parent considering a private adoption placement for your child, we will provide you with support and guidance as you consider all of your options. Should you proceed with an adoption plan, counseling will be provided to you throughout the entire process at no cost. Counseling services would continue to be available to you for a period of six months post placement should you proceed with an adoption plan.

If you are a prospective adoptive family we will conduct your home study, and educate and prepare you for the unique challenges of adoption. We will assist you in reaching the appropriate adoption program for your family.
